影片以讥讽的方式报告了阿瑟王和圆桌军人们在寻觅圣杯的进程中，履历的各种趣事。
带着敲椰子壳的家丁，亚瑟王（格雷厄姆·查普曼 Graham Chapman 饰）伪装骑着马寻觅骑士和城堡，一路看尽生灵涂炭的气象，和各类鸡同鸭讲的公众交换，最初招揽到一群圆桌骑士。他们一路伪装骑着马，到了卡米洛特城堡，在城堡外，他们碰见天上显现的天主，要求他们去寻觅圣杯。他们试图用“木獾记”攻下一座法国人的城堡，可是却忘记存身在木獾里，终极被法国人打得屁滚尿流。履历失利的亚瑟王与骑士们起头分头行动，寻觅圣杯的使命意义严重，更多不靠谱的人和事一路期待这群不靠谱的骑士们……
本片是唯逐一部进入IMDB前50排名的“无厘头”电影。片中“巨蟒团”六名焦点成员每人出演了4-10个脚色，包揽片中大部分脚色。

影片的套路很是像《鬼话西游》。蒙迪佩登是英国著名笑剧班子，本片霸占工具是亚瑟王题材，将这个陈腐传闻酿成搞笑的源泉，很有点早期伍迪艾伦的味道。比力粗糙，水平良莠不齐，但笑剧才华不容轻忽。
