美国亚利桑那州矿业小镇繁华镇，一辆输送化学质料的卡车发闹变乱，将有毒废物倾倒进当地河流。镇上养蛛人的上千蜘蛛被净化，变得体积庞大，成批进入烧毁的矿井栖息滋生。小镇警长珊姆?帕克（卡瑞?伍尔Kari Wührer饰）的儿子迈克（史考特?泰拉 Scott Terra 饰）发现了庞大的蜘蛛腿，思疑养蛛人遇害，但母亲珊姆却不听儿子诠释。镇上矿主的儿子克里斯?麦克康莫克（大卫?阿奎特David Arquette饰）在镇议会上归来，否决镇长出售矿井的倡议。克里斯对珊姆余情未了，却没勇气向才子表白心迹。迈克将巨型蛛腿展现给克里斯看，后者仍然将信将疑。与此同时，矿井里的庞大蜘蛛起头进犯镇上动物，然后是人类。通讯系统也被“八脚怪”破坏，全镇人的生命危在旦夕……
