　　在法国中部的一个村落，雷米·吉尔曼医生居然成了一只“乌鸦”的受害者。本来，有人写了一封签名“乌鸦”的匿名信，诬陷他犯有通奸罪和不法实施流产手术。很快，这封诬陷信就在村子里普遍传播开来，闹得全部村子惊慌不安，每一个村民都被思疑是这封奥秘匿名信的作者。雷米医生在对此事展开观察的进程中，逐步发现了同胞们的卑劣无耻和小肚鸡肠。
　　本片拍得相当出色，不单剧情盘曲、氛围松散，既反应了战时“高枕无忧”的心理状态，对于片中脚色的本性刻画也入木三分。好莱坞于1951年由名导演奥图·普里明杰重拍成美国版，名为《第十三封信》（The Thirteenth Letter），将故事布景改成加拿大的小城，但整体成就较法国版减色。
　　导演亨利·乔治·克鲁佐（Henri-Georges Clouzot）1943年的《密告》（Le Corbeau）是他最成功的作品，也建立了其严重悬疑的气概。
